Objective: Enhance the Cooperstown Central School Districts’ ability to meet the emotional, behavioral, cognitive and social needs of students in order to ensure curricular and instructional success.The role of a school social worker will assist to cultivate and maintain a school environment that supports a sense of belonging and connectedness, supports students in the development of positive relationships and self esteem as well as strengthen community partnerships with the Cooperstown School District. Furthermore, the school social worker assists students from an ecological perspective, looking at all systems affecting the student’s ability to be a successful learner. A social worker will provide programs that reach all students with a proactive approach to reduce higher level of care and/or the frequency of crisis incidents; programs in healthy relationships and pro-social skills and suicide prevention. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures of clinical social work and of the social factors affecting those with behavioral health needs; ability to organize work effectively; ability to interpret federal, state and local laws affecting the medical and health programs; ability to prepare reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's Degree in Social Work from a graduate school of social work approved by the New York State Department of Education.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Current Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or must obtain Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) within three months of appointment.
