The Director of Guidance is responsible to the Assistant Superintendent for Staff & Student Services for the coordination and implementation of the district’s guidance programs. General policies of the program are reviewed by the Assistant Superintendent for Staff & Student Services and approved by the Superintendent of Schools. School Counselors are responsible to the Director of Guidance for the performance of their guidance functions and to the building principals for general school functions.The Director demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the components of a comprehensive, developmental guidance program, counseling theory and practice, personality development, strategies for effective career, educational and college planning, child growth and development, learning assessment and remediation, research related to learning, and school and community resources available to assist students and parents.The Director organizes, supervises, and evaluates the work of the School Counselors at all levels. The Director holds regular department meetings to communicate curriculum initiatives, share ideas, and plan for ongoing improvements. The Director will be able to expertly interpret data and collaborate effectively with building and district level administrationThe Director will demonstrate the ability to develop the Master Schedule at various levels.The Director exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
