POSITION TITLE: Practical Nursing – Full Time Lead Nursing InstructorWORK YEAR: This is a 12 Month PositionSALARY: Starting at $74,000QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in the State of New York.MSN (or BSN – enrolled and progressing in MSN program) in nursing education required.PN instructors should be eligible for certification as teacher of Basic Skills in Nursing (Adult Education Certificate).Current experience in the clinical area, i.e. acute care setting (hospital), rehabilitative and long term care facilities.Current teaching experience preferred.Current CPR Certification. REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES: This staff position is directly responsible to the Coordinator of Healthcare Occupations and Director of Adult Education. POSITION OBJECTIVE:Nursing faculty member function to assist student to achieve learning objectives and develop skills. The faculty member works closely with the coordinator to provide students feedback designed to promote personal and professional growth. POSITION DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional / Didactic 1. Prepare teaching materials using the course outlines and objectives2. Use varied methods in presentation of classroom materials.3. Encourage students to seek further knowledge using texts, professional journals and Internet.4. Promote self-care among students through written and homework assignments.5. Prepare exam questions using the course objectives and various different types of items ie. Multiple choice, short answer, diagrams.6. Complete monthly student evaluations as assigned by coordinator.7. Adapt teaching skills to the learning needs of the students.8. Stimulate students to problem solve, think critically and act responsibly.9. Assist students with correlation of theory and nursing skills.Clinical / Lab 1. Organize and manage lab teaching materials and schedule2. Prepare and post clinical assignments prior to 3 PM on Wed. of scheduled week.3. Prepare and lead pre and post conference.4. Review student materials to insure clinical preparedness.5. Observe patient care given by students.6. Review clinical documentation for charting.7. Provide student with appropriate written feedback daily. Programmatic1. Actively participate in the development, revision, and implementation of the curriculum.2. Act as a student advisor – meeting with assigned students at least three times per semester. Personal1. Act as a positive role model for students.2. Attend and participate in professional workshops and conferences.3. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.4. Maintain and update professional knowledge through continuing education programs and professional journals.5. Perform other duties and assignments as designated by the Coordinator of Healthcare Occupations.6. Inform Coordinator of any student at risk for failure due to unsatisfactory or unsafe clinical practice. 7.
