Cohoes City School District is looking for a dynamic School Social Worker who is passionate about supporting the social, emotional, behavioral and mental health needs of students. This elementary role is responsible for the Special Education student caseload; but also assists the building in addressing the social and psychological needs that can inhibit academic progress through group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention programs. Through collaboration with the Elementary School team, this role ensures that students will receive consistent instruction in “Second Step”, the elementary, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, set and achieve positive goals, experience improved school connectedness and become better learners. Works with students, staff, and principal in proactive de-escalation strategies. Facilitates short-term solution-focused student groups centered on such topics as school adjustment, attendance, social skills, anxiety and others identified through data review.Assists teachers in establishing an appropriate data collection method for purposes of analyzing the data for developing FBA’s and subsequent BIPS and building in monitoring checkpointsAs a member of the Crisis Team, responds to crises and plays a lead role in the post-incident debriefing process. Works with the Principal’s Cabinet to refine the crisis response protocolsMust have: NYS certification in School Social Worker and NYS MSW license.
