Middle School Social Emotional Learning Coach – Cohoes Middle School (Grant-funded) Under the direction of the Principal, the Social Emotional Learning Coach guides the efforts of the middle school team in the planning, implementation and sustaining of the Social Emotional Learning, (SEL), framework. The SEL Coach works to ensure that the team implements social and emotional experiences and competencies with fidelity so that students will receive consistent instruction in SEL, set and achieve positive goals, experience improved school connectedness, and become better learners.This role: Collaborates with the middle school team in designing and implementing effective strategies for best practice social emotional learning and behavioral practices. Plans professional development (PD) for middle school staff, as needed, at the discretion of the Principal in topics including: promoting prosocial/SEL skills; positive behavior support strategies in the classroom; SEL domains and curriculum (Second Step, PBIS); Restorative Practices; SEL assessment and tools to monitor student growth. Promotes Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies and tiered interventions as an active member on the grade level Instructional Support Team(s) (IST). Provides direct support to teachers (PD, modeling, classroom and/or student observations) as needed. Works with students, staff, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal and Principal in proactive de-escalation strategies. Collaborates with middle school counseling staff in establishing and facilitating short-term solution-focused student groups As a member of the Crisis Team, responds to crisis and plays a key role in the post-incident debriefing process. Works with the Principal’s Cabinet to refine crisis response protocolsAs with other positions providing building-level support, the Social Emotional Learning Coach shall be expected to perform other duties as may be from time-to-time assigned by the Principal.
