Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District TITLE: Dean of Students REPORTS TO: Building Principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, 10 month, tenure track Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience Benefits afforded as per collective bargaining agreement with Cobleskill-Richmondville Teacher Association (C-RTA) POSITION OVERVIEW: The Golding Middle School Dean of Students works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of the principal. He/she is responsible for the management and discipline of students, the implementation and facilitation of school led initiatives, and for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES: ? Valid professional/permanent teaching certificate ? 5 years or more of demonstrable success as a classroom teacher or teacher leader ? Demonstrable experience leading school based programming ? Establishes and maintains productive and collaborative relationships with families and staff ? Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective disciplinary program. ? Models district standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism ? Creates an environment where students from diverse backgrounds are comfortable and experience success ? Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment ? Uses effective interpersonal skills including tact, patience, courtesy, and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of others DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders to support the students’ academic achievement, personal and social development. ? Works cooperatively with the principal, counselor, nurse, staff, students and parents towards a positive school climate. ? Serves as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept. ? Supervision of students ? Supervision of support staff as assigned ? Liaison to student government and other extracurricular activities ? Coordinates, facilitates and implements disciplinary intervention steps and processes with students, staff, and caregivers ? Implements the use of progressive discipline and restorative justice practices ? Coordinates implementation of parent involvement as well as school sponsored events (assemblies, dances, student led initiatives) ? Assists in school-wide and event supervision ? Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal
