ANNOUNCING THE FOLLOWING VACANCY FOR 2024 – 2025 Position: GroundspersonAssignment: Catskill Central School DistrictGeneral Statement of Duties: Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks in connection with the upkeep of grounds around a building; does related work as required.Distinguishing Features of the Class: This is routine work requiring only limited knowledge in grounds maintenance work, but requiring physical endurance. Assignments are outlined in detail, and work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level employee, but with leeway allowed for use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required. Typical Work Activities: (Illustrative Only)Mows, fertilizes lawns, rakes cut grass and leaves;Plant flowers and takes care of weeding flowerbeds, walkways and driveways;Plants, trims and prunes trees, hedges and shrubs;Keeps all walks and drives free of litter;Cleans and removes debris from gutters and catch basins;May operate snowplow and sanding equipment;Removes snow and ice from walks, pathways, steps;May secure buildings and property;Instructs subordinates in proper procedures relating to the care and upkeep of grounds;When not working as a grounds-person, performs other routine manual work inside and outside;In absence of custodians and/or cleaners may act as a substituteFull Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: Some knowledge of grounds maintenance activities, willingness to perform routine manual work; ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to schedule work for self and others; physical endurance, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of GED and one year of satisfactory experience in grounds maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to indicate the ability to do the work.Special Requirement if Applicable to the Position: If this position requires a driver’s license, possession of a valid New York State Driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and this license must be maintained throughout employment.Special Requirement for Appointment in School Districts: In accordance with the Safe School Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000; and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education; candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.Effective: As Soon as PossibleDeadline: August 9, 2024Salary: Per CSEA ContractTo Apply: Please apply at www.pnwboces.org/olas (OLAS Online Application System for K-12 Education).
