Certified Substitute TeachersPosition Title: Substitute Teacher Location: Carmel Central School District Reports To: Building Principal / Classroom Teacher Employment Type: Per-diem, as neededPosition OverviewA Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining the continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute follows lesson plans, supervises students, and supports a positive and safe learning environment.Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Classroom ManagementImplement lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.Deliver instruction to whole classes, small groups, or individual students.Maintain a safe, respectful, and well-managed classroom environment.Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, or other assigned times.Adjust teaching approaches as needed to meet student needs.Student SupervisionProvide continuous supervision of students throughout the day.Uphold school rules, policies, and behavior expectations.Report any behavioral, safety, or academic concerns to the building administrator.Professional ResponsibilitiesTake attendance and complete any required forms accurately.Communicate professionally with staff and administrators.Leave detailed notes for the returning teacher on instruction delivered and student behavior.Maintain confidentiality and follow all district, state, and federal guidelines.Qualifications*RequiredNew York State Teacher Certification (any grade level or subject area)NYSED fingerprint clearance and background checkAbility to follow directions, manage a classroom, and maintain professionalismPreferredBachelor’s Degree or higherPrior classroom or childcare experienceAbility to use classroom technology (Smart Boards, Chromebooks, Google Classroom)Skills & AbilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsClassroom management and organizational abilitiesFlexibility, patience, and professionalismAbility to support students in a positive and encouraging mannerWork SchedulePer-diem; assignments vary based on district needsCan include half-day, full-day, or long-term coveragePhysical RequirementsAbility to move throughout the building, bend, lift small items, and supervise active students
