The Bay Shore Union Free School District, an equal opportunity employer, anticipates the following administrative vacancy in the Office of Pupil Personnel Services for the 2026-2027 school year: Instructional Supervisor for Secondary Level Special Education The Instructional Supervisor for Secondary Level Special Education serves as a crucial liaison between special education faculty, administration, and stakeholders, providing comprehensive support and leadership for all aspects of special education services at the middle and high school levels. This role focuses on ensuring the delivery of high-quality special education instruction, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, and fostering a collaborative environment that promotes student success. The position reports directly to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, but also operates at the request and need of the middle school and high school building principals. The role requires a dynamic, experienced professional capable of managing multiple responsibilities while maintaining a focus on student support and departmental efficiency. Position salary is in accordance with the Bay Shore Administrator's Association contract. Key Responsibilities : 1. Leadership and Collaboration a. Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with secondary faculty in the special education department and related staff b. Maintain a regular physical presence in both middle and high school settings, including attendance at special events c. Work collaboratively with middle and high school administration to address special education-related questions, concerns, tasks, and initiatives d. Facilitate department meetings with special education faculty and paraprofessionals to provide information, training, support, and professional development e. Attend District and secondary building administrative meetings, as scheduled 2. Instructional Support and Evaluation a. Observe and evaluate both tenured and non-tenured teaching staff b. Provide differentiated instructional strategies and support to faculty c. Offer academic support, curriculum enrichment, and lesson planning mentorship to untenured teachers 3. Compliance and Administrative Duties a. Implement IDEA Federal Compliance & Part 200 mandates in daily administrative decision-making b. Assist with compliance reviews of Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 documents c. Ensure all special education paperwork meets state mandates and District policies/practices d. Establish, implement, and adapt department procedures for efficiency based on feedback 4. Student Support and Advocacy a. Monitor and create graduation plans for at-risk students b. Promote and educate parents about special education programs c. Mediate issues among parents, students, teachers, paraprofessionals, and administration d. Oversee implementation of specialized learning systems such as Unique Learning System/n2y 5. Scheduling and Coordination a. Assist in middle and high school scheduling processes for faculty and staff, IEP and 504 students through collaboration with building administration and related departments, including: Guidance, ENL and all content areas. 6. Assessment and Testing a. Oversee and coordinate special education testing, including mid-terms, finals, diagnostics, Regents exams, and New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) i. Middle School - works with the building designee to coordinate, develop and communicate special education testing protocols, procedures, and schedules ii. High School - monitors and supervises the departmental designee responsible for coordinating and scheduling special education testing in the building b. Supervise and support special education teachers in developing testing accommodations 7. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: a. Participate in hiring committees for special education positions. b. Assist in chairing Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings, Annual Reviews, and Section 504 meetings c. Serve as school contact with Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) for transitional services d.
