The Bronxville School is seeking a full-time tenure track Middle School/High School Assistant Principal. Appropriate certification is required; experience is preferred. ASSISTANT MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALThe Middle/High School Assistant Principal reports to and is evaluated by both the High School Principal and the Middle School Principal, and sits as a member of the Administrative Council. Major responsibilities include those described below, as specifically delegated by the Principals, and others designated by the Superintendent. In general, the Assistant Middle/High School Principal will, under supervision of the Principals and in cooperation with other administrators, manage, supervise, monitor, coordinate and evaluate the overall structure and delivery of the School's programs. Particular emphasis will be given to management and administrative responsibilities delegated by the Principals and on cooperative work with the Principals in supervision of staff members. Supervision and EvaluationThe Assistant Principal will:Share with the Principals in exercising supervisory functions for the professional staff of the School, including direct supervision and evaluation of classroom teachers and other professional staff positions provided in the Middle/High School.Provide support and assistance to professional and non-instructional staff.Assist the Principals in overseeing the selection, in cooperation with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, of new professional and non-instructional staff, taking care to enlist the advisory assistance of other staff members, students and parents where appropriate.Assist in recommending to the Superintendent successful candidates for professional and non-instructional staff positions in the School.Assist in orienting new staff members to the School and District policies and procedures.Share with the Principals in conducting formal and in-formal observations of all Middle/High School professional staff members, with particular attention to written observations on probationary staff.Share with the Principals in coordinating with the Assistant Superintendent in the supervision and evaluation of the non-instructional staff of the School.Share with the Principals in providing written summary evaluations on an annual basis for all professional staff members, with particular attention to formal written observation reports on each probationary staff member each year.School ManagementThe Assistant Principal will:Assist the Principals in the Schools’ coordination and compliance with all programs and policies established by the Board of Education, and all relevant local, state and federal law or regulation.Assist the Principals in the general management and control of the High School and Middle School and for all records and reports concerned therewith.In the absence of the Principals or by the Principals’ designations, have the powers necessary for executing the policies of the Board and for enforcing rules determined by the Superintendent.Assist the Principals in establishing rules for the administration of the High School and Middle School, such rules to be reviewed and approved by the Superintendent.Assist in overseeing routines, practices and management of the Schools which are important to the creation of an effective environment for student learning.Communications/School Community The Assistant Principal will:Assist in coordinating communications with the School community, both internal and external.Accept delegated responsibility from the Principals for certain aspects of the educational program, providing opportunities for community awareness and encouraging community support.Assist the Principals in inviting guests to visit classrooms, activities and staff of the assigned School. Student Needs The Assistant Principal will:Implement, at the Principals’ direction, the appropriate placement of students in the Schools by grade, course and level.Sit as a member of the High School and Middle School Child Study Teams to provide insight and attention to the individual academic and developmental needs of students.At the direction of the Principals, exercise administrative responsibility for the Schools’ program of extracurricular activities, including supervision of the activities' advisors or moderators.In the High School Principal’s absence, serve as the Executive representative of the School in conjunction with the Student-Faculty Legislature.Assist in providing leadership for other School-wide programs as appropriate to student needs and as delegated by the Principals.Serve as the first line of administrative responsibility in matters of student conduct, including the recommendation of disciplinary action up to the levels of suspensions described by Board of Education policy and state law.Inspire students by example and exhortation to the highest standards of conduct and scholarship. Unanticipated Situations The Assistant Principal will:Assist the Principals in providing leadership for the Schools in times of emergency or other significant occurrence as needed.Perform such duties in addition to those described above as they may be assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Board of Education.
