The Brentwood Union Free School District, New York’s largest suburban school district, announces the following vacancy for an articulate, analytical, dedicated, progressive, and creative educational leader: Assistant to the Superintendent for Facilities, Athletics, and Special Projects(12-month work year)Job Summary:The Brentwood Union Free School District is entering Phase 2 of an extensive modernization initiative. Major work includes the construction of a new football field, comprehensive upgrades to athletic facilities, HVAC/air conditioning expansion across buildings, Smart Schools Bond extensions, and completion of the district’s new culinary arts center. Simultaneously, the district continues to strengthen operational systems, workforce pathways, and leadership development structures. To support this work, the District is establishing a Cabinet-level position responsible for:• Facilities leadership and long-term campus planning • Capital, non-capital, and modernization construction projects (inclusive of HVAC/AC expansion & Smart Schools Bond initiatives) • Culinary Arts Center oversight as a flagship capital initiative • Athletics coordination & strategic facility alignment • Oversight of UPK CBO facility inspections • Workforce pathway programs, including referee certification pipelines • Leadership development mentoring for administrators • Superintendent-assigned initiatives and special projects Reports to: Superintendent of Schools Minimum Requirements:Ö Must hold appropriate NYS Administrative Certification. Additional requirements include, but are not limited to: Facilities Leadership & Campus Planning• Provide direct leadership, evaluation, and support to the Director of Facilities III. • Oversee all custodial, maintenance, and grounds operations to maintain high safety and operational standards. • Establish protocols for the management & replacement-cycle planning of district vehicle fleets. • Conduct regular walk-throughs with administrators to identify needs & ensure timely corrective action. • Ensure all buildings, athletic spaces, and specialty instructional areas are safe, compliant, well-maintained, and program-ready. • Develop multi-year facilities planning aligned to enrollment trends, instructional needs, and long-range capital priorities.Capital Projects & Strategic Initiative Oversight• Lead coordination of all district construction—including football field development, athletic expansions, HVAC/AC infrastructure, Smart Schools Bond Extensions, and Culinary Arts Center completion. • Serve as the Superintendent’s liaison to architects, engineers, construction managers, and state/local regulatory agencies in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations. • Monitor project milestones, budgets, timelines, and compliance with building codes, environmental regulations, and NYSED reporting. • Create capital project dashboards, progress updates, and Board presentations. • Ensure preventative maintenance systems and post-construction operational plans are implemented.Budgeting, Sustainability, & Resource Stewardship• Develop and monitor operational budgets for facilities, grounds, and custodial services. • Evaluate bids, contracts, and vendor performance tied to facilities and athletics. • Advance energy-efficiency initiatives, green infrastructure, and sustainable operational practices. • Recommend cost-saving measures while protecting facility quality and safety standards.Administrator Mentoring & Leadership Development• Support the Superintendent in structuring the Administrator Mentoring & Leadership Support Program. • Partner with Cabinet leaders and BPSO to grow leadership capacity districtwide. • Provide coaching on systems leadership, communication, culture, and operational readiness. • Maintain Superintendent updates on leadership progress, program needs, and next steps.Athletics, Physical Education, Health & Workforce Pathways• Collaborate closely with the Athletic Coordinator to ensure facility scheduling, upgrades, and modernization align with program growth. • Support workforce development programming—including the Referee Certification Pipeline Program (facility readiness, scheduling, partnerships). • Ensure athletic fields, gymnasiums, and health/PE spaces meet safety, instructional, and regulatory standards. • Assist with facility planning for CTE, culinary arts, trades pathways, and emerging workforce initiatives.Superintendent Support & Special Projects• Prepare detailed reports, operational briefs, and Board presentations. • Lead Superintendent-assigned modernization, capital, and workforce projects. • Advance districtwide goals by aligning facilities operations with student opportunity, equity, and program expansion. • Perform related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
