SCHOOL ATTENDANCE TEACHERS Qualifications: Must hold NYSED School Attendance Teacher certification; Provisional or Permanent Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Understand have knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Act. Coordinate with designees, social workers and school staff in the district to assist homeless students with obtaining documents, assisting with services and communication.Ascertain and help remove the basic causes of poor attendance by working with students, parents/guardians, teachers, support staff and administrators.Make referrals and confer with various community agencies when attendance services are unsuccessful.Make home visits as needed.Participate in case conferencesMaintain liaison between the Department of Probation, Child Protective Services (CPS) and other community agenciesRepresent the school district in court regarding attendance matters.Network with other attendance teachers and other district personnel regarding attendance matters.
