Qualifications:New York State Certification as a School Social Worker requiredLCSW certification preferredGeneral Overview of Responsibilities: The school social worker is a specialist who serves as a liaison between home, school and communityActivity is directed toward those children whose academic, attendance, social, and/or behavior difficulties impair their learningThe school social worker collaborates with all school district personnel to broaden the school and district’s knowledge and understanding of the home environment The school social worker takes appropriate action to involve families in recognizing the nature of school related problems and plans accordingly for improvementThe school social worker interfaces with community agencies and other child-advocacy resources, makes or supports the referral process to additional agencies, and facilitates the exchange of information and recommendations in compliance with relevant lawJob Duties:Attend meetings as necessary, including MTSS, SST, CSE, and 504 meetingsCollaborate with teachers and other professionals in assessing students’ needs and designing proactive strategies to support individual studentsAssist in the planning, development, and implementation of restorative practices to support the learning environmentAssist in the implementation of MTSS interventions and prevention programs in response to demonstrated needs, which may include positive self-image building, social skills, and character education. These supports may be implemented through teacher consultation, individual, small group, class, or school-wide, depending upon assessed needsProvide resources and referrals pertaining to community services/agencies and making referrals to appropriate agenciesWork with the school personnel and families to develop strong home-school connections support student success in all settingsProvide counseling services according to individualized education programs (IEPs) or other school-based plansProgress monitor social emotional goals as indicated in student’s individualized education programs, 504 plans, Behavior Intervention Plans or MTSS behavioral plansConduct home visits to build connections with families and liaise between the school and family Other duties and responsibilities as designated by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services or designeeProvide oversight of the school’s food pantry program (through the Regional Food Bank)
