Candidate should be able to provide direct instruction to students in the listening, speaking, reading and writing of English; Hold conferences with classroom teachers periodically throughout the year to evaluate the progress of the student in content areas; Coordinate instructional services with Special Education, Speech and Learning Center teachers who serve the ENL students; follow-up with the teacher of a specific subject area in which the student is experiencing difficulty by helping to identify the problem, supplying information from ENL research and theory that will help the teacher understand the nature and extent of the problem and suggesting alternative methods when possible; Problem solving on general issues is usually done with the ENL teacher as part of the instructional team; Assist in the instructional process by supplementing materials used in the classroom, reading a test to a student and reviewing methods of evaluation when asked to do so by classroom teachers; Meet with all parents to explain their role in the education process and the teacher’s role as an ENL student advocate; Provide staff development in the area of ESL by polling the teachers and providing in-service training for any area of concern; general knowledge of Learning StandardsThe Candidate must have the appropriate New York State ESL or TESOL certification.Position requires 2 instructional periods a day, five days a week.
