Job DescriptionOperates a school bus on a regular scheduleMay drive students to and from special eventsCleans, washes and polishes busChanges oil, puts on chains, repairs tires and performs a variety of minor repair tasksMay be responsible for safety and decorum in school parking areasSweep, mop, wash walls, dust, empty wastebaskets and dispose of rubbish; handle towels and other cleaning supplies; wax floors and wash windows and blackboards.Assist in movement of supplies and equipment.Set up and remove furniture for special affairs, as required.Perform other duties as directed by the superintendent of schools and his/her designee (i.e. hand deliveries/U.S. post office services/cafeteria services).Civil Service TitleCleaner/Bus DriverJob QualificationsGood knowledge of the operation of busesAbility to understand and follow simple oral and written directionsMechanical aptitudeDependabilityGood physical conditionCleaning and driving experience preferredPossession of a valid New York State Driver's License, with no convictions for moving violations during the past yet and appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Drivers must be at least 21 years of age.Candidates must also satisfy all requirements of Article 19A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. In addition, candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.
