Ballston Spa Central School District has a provisional opening for a Microcomputer Technician. *This position will be filled provisionally pending the results of a Civil Service exam that will be scheduled at a later dateMinimum Qualifications: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology, Data Processing, Computer Science, Electronic Technology, or related field; OR Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate's Degree in Computer Technology, Data Processing, Computer Science, Electronic Technology or related field AND two (2) years of experience working the microcomputers; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND four (4) years of experience working the microcomputers.Salary: 35.75/hr.Please upload: Letter of interest, proof of High School Diploma or GED completion and/or college transcripts, and two (2) letters of reference.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work involves the installation, testing, repair and maintaining of all microcomputers and their peripheral devices for a school system or similar entity. This work involves familiarization with the microcomputer field. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Microcomputer Coordinator or other higher level official, with some leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Does related work as requiredTYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (*Illustrative Only)Installs, checks and tests new equipment installation; Responds to calls for hardware and software problems, diagnoses problems and determines the most cost effective method for solving problems; Implements corrective action and/or repair of hardware and software problems; Operates a help desk for all users of computer equipment; Assists in the preparation of specifications for all computer hardware; Assists in the maintenance of all local area networks, internet connections and district wide area network; Maintains an inventory of computer parts; May assist or prepare a variety of forms, reports and financial records; May attend various meetings regarding in-service programs for computer training.*Typical Work Activities are intended only as illustrations of possible types of work that might be appropriately assigned to an incumbent of this title.
