K-8 Literacy Coach Anticipated start date: July 1, 2024Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and InstructionThe Bedford Central School District is actively seeking a K-8 literacy coach to work with K-8 teachers and leaders to support ongoing professional development and fully implement the district’s adopted literacy program aligned to the Science of Reading. Qualified candidates must have a valid NYS Literacy Certification, demonstrate the skills and attitude of a master teacher, have at least five (5) years of elementary teaching experience, experience as a reading specialist or literacy coach, knowledge of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, MTSS, and have strong content and instructional expertise in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Role & Responsibilities: Provide professional development and coaching that will improve teaching and learning – including teaching strategies, assessment of literacy skills, and interpretation and use of assessment results.Provide research-based guidance regarding effective instructional practices in the six (6) pillars of literacy instruction: oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Provide research-based guidance on the components of biliteracy for bilingual learners, English language learners, and students with language-based disabilities.Provide support and assistance to all classroom teachers in fully implementing the district’s adopted literacy program. Work directly with the curriculum vendor to design and implement onboarding professional development.Provide leadership and support to building leaders in implementing the district’s adopted literacy program within each elementary school.Conduct demonstration lessons to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed. Assists teacher in preparation pacing for instruction. Ensure vertical alignment of literacy curriculum units from grade to grade.Develop and implement an organized coaching schedule that includes equitable time in all five elementary schools, as well as meeting time with building leadership, to support the effective implementation of literacy curriculum, instruction, and assessment.Lead professional development during Superintendent Conference Days, attend Curriculum Council, and collaborate with elementary coordinators and K-8 administrators to support professional development in literacy instruction.Provide professional development in the instructional shifts needed for consistent and coherent curriculum and instruction (word walls to sound walls, redesign classroom libraries to support content-rich texts, vocabulary development, read aloud, etc.) aligned to reading research.Salary starting at $77,917 or higher commensurate with experience.Candidates should apply on OLAS by May 15, 2024
