The School Health Aide provides support for elementary students' health and personal care needs to promote wellness, safety, and independence. Working under the direction of school health staff, the aide assists students with non-medical health needs, especially related to hygiene, toileting, and basic first aid. This role requires sensitivity, patience, and attention to privacy to help maintain a positive and supportive environment. Bilingual skills are preferred but not required. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Personal Care and Hygiene Support:Assist students with toileting, including support with hygiene, routine clean-up, and any necessary changes of clothing.Promote self-care and independence, helping students develop skills in handwashing and personal cleanliness.Basic First Aid and Health Needs:Provide minor first aid for common injuries such as scrapes or bumps, following the school’s protocols.Document incidents and report health concerns to the school nurse or designated health staff.Monitoring and Reporting Health Concerns:Observe students for signs of illness or injury and promptly report observations to the appropriate health staff.Maintain accurate records of health incidents, toileting assistance, and other care provided, following confidentiality standards.Support for Student Comfort and Safety:Assist students with mobility needs or those requiring extra physical support to move around the school safely.Work with classroom staff to ensure health needs are accommodated and that students are comfortable throughout the school day.Collaborative Communication:Communicate with teachers and school staff to coordinate care plans and address specific student needs in the classroom.The School Health Aide plays an essential role in maintaining a healthy, inclusive school environment where students feel safe and cared for, supporting both their physical comfort and emotional well-being.
