The Blind Brook - Rye Union Free School District is a high performing school district that centers on helping students of all ages and abilities achieve their potential. We are seeking an energetic, dedicated, and technology proficient individual to serve as our Elementary School Librarian. This K-5 role combines traditional library services with a constructivist approach to learning and innovation. Successful candidates will be able to collaborate with colleagues to create a welcoming and dynamic literacy environment in our library and in classrooms around the school.Qualifications:Traditional literacy instruction:Understands and can implement modern approaches to childhood literacy developmentHas a passion for reading and a commitment to nurturing students’ intellectual curiosityHas an extensive knowledge of grade-appropriate texts that appeal to a wide range of readers, including texts written by or about individuals from traditionally underrepresented backgroundsHas strong classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.Information literacy/STEAM:Understands and can promote grade-appropriate information literacy skills among elementary studentsUnderstands modern print and digital research skills and is able to teach them to elementary-aged studentsSTEAM background a big plusCollaboration and planning:Can connect and collaborate with grade-level teachers to plan and execute classroom-based projects focused on literacy and researchCollaborates with teachers to plan and implement projects focused on digital learning, participatory learning, inquiry learning, and information literacyCredentials/background:NYS Library Media Specialist and/or K-5 Common Branch certification requiredExperience working in an elementary school setting is preferredBlind Brook is committed to cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion and connectedness.
