Concord Road Elementary School is seeking an innovative and student-centered School Library Media Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB: Operation and administration of the library program at the building level. Under the direction of the building principal, the School Library Media Specialist works cooperatively with teaching staff, interventionists, and curriculum leaders to provide library/media services which develop, support, and enrich each student's learning experiences. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of assigned area content and content-related pedagogy The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students Must possess strong communication, managerial and leadership skills Demonstrated strong knowledge of effective library services, technologies, electronic information resources, and library automation systems Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a diverse school community Ability to effectively motivate and assess students academically and socially Ability to work as part of a highly functioning team Required criminal background check and proof of US citizenship or legal alien status Ability to work on site during the hours required Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Experience with Makerspace and teaching digital literacy preferred PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Collection Development, Space, & Resource Management Develop and maintain a vibrant library environment, with a diverse collection of books, resources and other materials, representing the diversity of the student body and supporting the range of the educational programs, including resources that promote media literacy, digital citizenship, and the responsible use of technology. Within budget constraints, ensure that the Library Media Center is equipped with an up-to-date range of relevant hard copy and digital resources. Maintain accurate records of library materials in the library automation system to ensure that all resources are easily accessible. Maintain book lists supporting the development of study skills and broader exposure to a variety of genres for students. Instruction & Student Learning Teach and/or support lessons in literacy and research based in the Library Media Center, both in full classes and small groups, integrating instruction on media literacy, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use. Ensure the skills development of research, independent information literacy, digital literacy and the ethical use of information skills through taught courses and individual and group support, including the ability to critically evaluate digital sources, recognize bias and misinformation, and use technology ethically. Lead student library induction sessions, library skills sessions and support class visits to the Library. Information Literacy & Curriculum Integration Work with the curriculum leaders and literacy committee to create a whole school information and digital literacy plan. Contribute to integrating interdisciplinary information literacy across the curriculum. In liaison with classroom teachers, encourage the use of the Library Media Center across all subject areas. Literacy Leadership & Schoolwide Reading Culture Promote and support literacy amongst the school community, leading reading and writing workshops and professional development, including guidance on media literacy, digital citizenship, and responsible technology practices. Work with school leaders to develop a whole school literature plan to foster a love of reading. Promote the Library Media Center as a focal point for students in support of their learning, research, and love of reading. Programming, Events & Community Engagement Organize and manage special events, author visits, competitions, programs, collaborations, and seminars that promote literacy and the love of reading. CERTIFICATION: Must hold acceptable NY Certification, as a Library Media Specialist TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month salary and benefits as per the contract between the ACT and Ardsley Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
