Nature and Scope of Job: The Elementary Chorus and General Music Teacher is a dynamic and student-centered educator responsible for delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in grades K–4. This role nurtures a lifelong appreciation for music by developing students' musical knowledge, vocal skills, and performance abilities through both general music classes and choral instruction. This position requires a passion for music education, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering joyful, respectful, and inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.Qualifications:Excellent vocal, choral and music training3-5 years of successful K-8 Choral Music & General Music teaching preferredRecorder, ukulele and piano/guitar skillsElectronic music and software skills (Garage Band, Sibelius, etc.)ORFF-Schulwerk/Kodaly methodsActive membership and knowledge of professional music organizations NafME, NYSSMA, state, ACDA (preferred)Performance Responsibilities:Seek to nurture a love of music and provide children with a firm understanding of musical concepts and skillsProvides direct instruction to students and collaborates K-4 music teachers to support the general music and choral music programsPrepares students for a minimum of 2 performances annually per ensemble Leads small group ensembles before/after school Maintains cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with colleaguesPerforms other duties as requested by the building principalCollaboration with Music Colleagues to organize concerts and school-wide eventsEvaluation:Performance will be evaluated annually using the same method as teachers.Certification:NYS Music certification required.In addition to applying on OLAS, you must also apply on our website at www.ardsleyschools.org (click on Careers).
