School Parent Community LiaisonJob Description:Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District (APW CSD) seeks qualified candidate for the position of School-Parent-Community Liaison starting August 31, 2022. The position is full time probationary with salary based on experience and the APW Faculty Association contract.The ideal candidate will have earned a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Social Work or related field; and hold a valid NYS Counseling Certification (Grades PK-12).This new position will be responsible for working with the school, student, and parents to allow for a smooth transition back into school. This position should focus on students identified by our Student Support Team. This staff person will work both in school and in the student’s home. They will help cultivate parental interest in their children's schools and activities. The liaison will help develop the children and families' relationships with the school district. They will also serve as a liaison with the broader community by sharing the goals and vision of the school district. Staff should ensure that parents/families and teachers communicate effectively which involves conversations pertaining to attendance, grades, and behavior. Supporting families with acquiring meals, medical services, mental health services should also be a role of the Parent-Student-Community Liaison role.Qualifications:• Formulate a plan to increase parent involvement.• Coordinate a series of parent education activities and programs in an attempt to have an understanding of adolescents.• Assist in the procurement and recruitment of community resources; i.e. local businesses, corporations, and organizations.• Establish a community center within the school to be utilized by the parents, students and community.• Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers and adopters.• Serve as resource for school related organizations, including Parent Teacher Association, Community Advisory Committee, Positive Parents, etc.• Provide technical assistance to District staff to achieve a broader understanding of the student community.• Work with appropriate community agencies to alleviate problems adversely affecting student attendance and learning.• Assist student and parent groups and conduct home visits.• Inform parents and students through a variety of forums including face-to-face and community meetings, and school tours.• Expose students to and inform parents of community activities• Produce and disseminate materials and information pertaining to the school program to its various publics.• Attend professional development sessions• Establish student mentor programs with community and business volunteers.• Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.• Keep abreast of technical, legislative and professional developments, state and federal laws, that affect the community and student population.• Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring successful communication between the school and home and a positive educational experience for the students and family.• Provides support and resources for parents for the purpose of improving student attendance.All internal & external applications will be accepted through OLAS only: https://www.olasjobs.org/Internal Posting Deadline: July 25, 2022External Posting Deadline: August 15, 2022Those employees within the department where the vacancy exists, who apply through OLAS for the vacant position, will be interviewed and considered for the position prior to considering employees from other departments and outside sources.
