SUBJECT: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES& SPECIAL EDUCATIONProbationary Appointment Duties include but are not limited to: Supervise and coordinate the implementation of special education services across all grade levels, including both in-district and out-of-district placements. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education services (e.g., IDEA, Section 504). Work closely with building-level special education staff (e.g., special education teachers, counselors, and paraprofessionals) to ensure effective program delivery. Chair and facilitate CSE meetings, ensuring that each student’s needs are thoroughly discussed and appropriate decisions are made regarding evaluations, services, and placements. Coordinate the CPSE process for preschool-aged children (typically ages 3-5), including evaluations and eligibility determinations. Liaise with parents, community agencies, and other professionals to create appropriate services for preschool-aged children with disabilities. Manage transition planning for children moving from CPSE to the Committee on Special Education (CSE) when they enter kindergarten. Assist in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students, ensuring that they are tailored to the individual needs of the student and comply with legal requirements. Ensure that IEPs are regularly reviewed and updated as necessary, particularly during annual reviews or after significant changes in a student’s progress. Oversee the implementation of IEPs across different settings, ensuring that staff are adequately trained and resources are available to meet the goals outlined. Stay current with changes in laws and regulations related to special education, including federal, state, and local mandates. Ensure that all special education programs, evaluations, and placements adhere to IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), 504 plans, and other relevant laws. Support the district in preparing for audits, reviews, and compliance monitoring related to special education services. Provide ongoing professional development for special education staff to ensure they are up-to-date with best practices and regulatory requirements. Support teachers and other professionals in managing students with special needs, including providing guidance on instructional strategies, behavior management, and accommodations. Conduct observations and provide feedback to staff on the delivery of services to students with disabilities. Assist in oversight of the collection and analysis of data related to special education services and student outcomes. Prepare reports for the director, superintendent, and state agencies regarding the effectiveness of special education programs and services. Develop and maintain strong partnerships with families and caregivers. Serve as a resource for parents of students with special needs, providing guidance on the special education process and available services. Assist in the oversight of the PPS department, including special education, school counseling, psychology services, social work, speech, and health services. Supervise the professional staff in these areas, ensuring high standards of service and practice. SALARY: Commensurate with experience - AAA Contract
