The Alexandria Central School District is accepting applications for an anticipated tenure-track Secondary Social Studies Teacher position. Multiple New York State teaching certifications are preferred but are not required. This probationary appointment will be made in accordance with the candidate's certification and educational qualifications, New York State Education Law, and the Alexandria Central Faculty Association (ACFA) Teachers' Contract. We are seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered educator who is committed to inspiring a passion for history and the social sciences through engaging, rigorous instruction. The successful candidate will create meaningful learning experiences that promote historical inquiry, critical thinking, analysis of multiple perspectives, civic engagement, and effective communication. The candidate will provide high-quality instruction in assigned secondary history courses while fostering students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. General responsibilities in this role include: Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the NYS Social Studies curriculum. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflect an understanding of the diverse learning styles and needs of students. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Work cooperatively with Special Education teachers to modify curricula as needed for Special Education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Be a positive and professional role model for students and support our school mission. Create a classroom learning environment that is engaging, orderly, secure, and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is shown. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, administration, and community members. Demonstrate leadership, take an active role in our school; pursue opportunities for extracurricular activities, clubs, committees, athletics, or other student engagements. Alexandria Central School District is a rural district in the heart of the Thousand Islands region, serving about 500 students in a UPK-12 setting.
