They are responsible for implementing lesson plans, managing classroom environments, and supporting student learning in the absence of lead teachers. Resident Teachers contribute to the success of the school by ensuring instruction continues seamlessly and that students remain engaged and supported.This role is ideal for individuals exploring a long-term career in education. Resident Teachers will work under the mentorship of instructional leaders to build skills in classroom management, lesson execution, and school culture—all aligned with Albany Leadership’s college-preparatory mission.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDeliver instruction and manage classrooms in the absence of lead teachersProvide short- and long-term substitute teaching coverage across subjects and grade levelsSupport instruction for small groups or individual studentsObserve veteran teachers to build effective instructional strategiesMeet regularly with an instructional supervisor to implement feedback and improve practiceAssist with classroom responsibilities such as grading, lesson support, and assessment deliveryEngage in curriculum development, grade-level planning, and school-wide activitiesSupervise students during transitions, meals, and assigned dutiesContribute to maintaining consistent behavioral expectations across the schoolCommunicate effectively with students, staff, and familiesAttend and participate in a mandatory two-week summer staff orientation and ongoing professional developmentSupervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervise students during classroom instruction and assigned non-instructional periodsEducation and ExperienceMinimum of 60 college credit hours requiredBachelor’s degree preferredPrior experience working with middle and/or high school students strongly preferredExperience in charter school settings is a plusCertificationNew York State teaching certification preferred but not requiredRequired QualificationsLanguage SkillsAbility to interpret lesson plans and instructional materialsClear verbal and written communication with students, staff, and familiesMathematical SkillsProficiency in basic math and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios in instructional settingsOther Skills and AttributesStrong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with students and colleaguesFlexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environmentAbility to implement provided lessons and adapt based on student needsParticipation in school events, meetings, and professional development is requiredTechnological proficiency for instructional and administrative tasksCulturally responsive practices and an ability to work within a diverse student bodyWork EnvironmentThe role involves regular movement throughout the school, including indoor and outdoor supervision. Physical requirements include occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), standing for extended periods, and navigating a variety of spaces within the school building.Noise levels vary depending on school activities.
