LOCATION: ACDS Pelham - 575 Fowler Ave, Pelham, NY 10803ACDS, Inc. is dedicated to providing lifetime resources and services of exceptional quality for children and adults with Down syndrome, Autism and other developmental disabilities.The ACDS Pelham branch, located in Pelham, provides preschool special education programs consisting of 8:1:2 and 12:1:2 classes.The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing adaptive physical activities for the children according to their individual needs and motor ability level to prepare them for entry into the public school physical education program. This process includes assessment/evaluation, prescriptive curriculum instruction, and a working relationship as a member of a multidisciplinary team.Adaptive Physical Education Teacher Duties include, but are not limited to:Teach physical education concepts and curriculum to EI and preschool students for assigned classes.Keep daily lesson plans which are submitted to the Principal on a weekly basis.Assess student motor skills and fitness levels and adapt curriculum accordingly to student need.Plan P.E. activities that are aligned to thematic curriculum content, outlining goals and objectives.Review IEPs and sign attestation sheet for all students in preschool classes which are assigned.Observe student behavior and modify activities accordingly to individual need.Work cooperatively with educational team/therapists in planning the most appropriate P. E. activities for students.Obtain appropriate materials to effectively teach motor and fitness skills to students with developmental challenges.Maintain control and storage of all school owned equipment used for Adaptive Physical Education.Communicate with parents, administration and a colleague on student's or class performance.Effectively utilize positive behavior support and effective classroom management techniques.Assist at ACDS special events, such as Graduation, as requested by Principal.Attend All Staff Orientation Day, Back to School Night, and other training in-services.Assist in classroom upon request.Keep abreast of the latest theories, philosophies, and materials in the field and attend relevant workshops or conferences.Coordinate integrated physical education classes with a local nursery school/day care center if circumstances accommodate this.Maintain appropriate confidentiality of student information according to FERPA and HIPAA regulations and agency and municipality policies concerning social networking, texting, and use of cell phones.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Must be able to lift heavy cones, mats and other physical education equipment as needed.Adhere to all policies and procedures.Adaptive Physical Education Teacher additional responsibilities:Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.Education, experience, and skills required for Adaptive Physical Education Teacher position:Bachelor' s Degree in Physical Education.NY State Certification in Physical Education.CPR certified preferred.Experience working with pre-school population and/or developmental disabilities preferred.Job Type: Full-timePay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per yearBenefits:403(b)Continuing education creditsDental insuranceEmployee assistance programEmployee discountFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insuranceParental leaveReferral programRetirement planVision insuranceSchedule:Day shiftMonday to FridayNo nightsNo weekendsExperience:Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)Special education: 1 year (Preferred)License/Certification:Teaching Certification (Preferred)Ability to Commute:Pelham, NY 10803 (Required)Ability to Relocate:Pelham, NY 10803: Relocate before starting work (Required)Work Location: In person
