PERSONNEL BULLETIN FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR: Director of Fine and Performing Arts The Westbury UFSD is seeking a visionary and committed Director of Fine and Performing Arts to provide instructional leadership in Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, and Dance. The Director reports to the Assistant Superintendents for Curriculum and Instruction, and the duties and performance responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Personnel and Staff DevelopmentPlan, develop, and implement meetings for Fine and Performing Arts staff and, when necessary, for general education staff on a district-wide, school-wide, or departmental basis.Provide workshops, research-based resources, periodicals, and professional readings to support the continued professional development of Fine and Performing Arts educators.Identify high-quality professional development opportunities specific to visual and performing arts disciplines.Collaborate with building principals and instructional leaders to enhance instructional strategies, curriculum integration, and student engagement in the arts.Encourage staff participation in conferences, festivals, competitions, and professional learning networks related to Fine and Performing Arts.Recruit and interview qualified educators in visual art, music, theatre, and dance.Maintain strong working relationships with NYSED officials and cultural arts organizations to stay informed of curriculum mandates and trends in arts education.Supervisory ResponsibilityEvaluate and support the professional growth of teachers and staff within the Fine and Performing Arts departments.Supervise, observe, and evaluate faculty, Teaching Assistants, Teacher Aides, and other support staff as appropriate.Assist building principals in tenure recommendations for educators in arts-related disciplines.Support interdisciplinary teams and curriculum committees that include the integration of arts into the broader academic curriculum.Provide direct supervision of arts coordinators, department chairs, and instructional specialists within the Fine and Performing Arts.General AdministrationLead and oversee curriculum development, program design, and instructional practices across all Fine and Performing Arts disciplines.Coordinate cross-school collaboration and vertical alignment to ensure a cohesive and sequential K–12 arts education experience.Align arts programming with New York State Learning Standards and district vision.Monitor student participation, performance, and access to high-quality arts education.Evaluate staffing needs and recommend course offerings annually based on student interest and district goals.Develop and support innovative programming and special initiatives to enhance student engagement in the arts.Direct oversight of all theatrical performances and performance groups.Business and BudgetCollaborate with the business office to develop and manage the Fine and Performing Arts department budget.Review and approve purchase requisitions for supplies, instruments, costumes, scenery, equipment, and instructional materials.Oversee expenditures related to performances, exhibits, festivals, and professional development.Identify and pursue grants and partnerships that expand access to arts education and support program growth.School and Community RelationsBuild and maintain relationships with local, regional, and state arts organizations, colleges, performance venues, and museums.Coordinate community outreach and public performances to highlight student talent and foster civic pride.Collaborate with FACE, PTA, and school-based teams to support events, performances, and showcases in the arts.Facilitate district-wide exhibits, concerts, theatrical productions, and other student-centered events.Advocate for equitable access to arts programming for all students and work to increase participation in arts pathways.Promote student leadership and community engagement through service-learning projects and artistic expression. Requirements:Valid New York State District Leader Certification and/or New York State School District Administrator Certification at the time of closing of advertisement required.Valid New York State Certification in one or more of the following areas required:New York State DanceNew York State MusicNew York State TheaterNew York State Visual ArtsPost-master’s degree in education (Doctorate preferred).At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience with tenure conferred in a fine and performing arts related area.At least five (2) years of successful experience in humanities related administration and staff supervision.Bilingual/Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
