PERSONNEL BULLETIN FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR: Director of Humanities The Westbury UFSD is searching for its next Director of Humanities, to provide leadership in all areas of Literacy, Social Studies, and Civics. The Director of Humanities reports to the Assistant Superintendents for Curriculum and Instruction, and the duties and performance responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Personnel and Staff DevelopmentPlan, develop, and implement meetings for all Humanities staff and for general education staff (when necessary) on a district-wide, school-wide, or departmental basis.Provide workshops, periodicals, journals, and articles to advance the knowledge base of the Humanities staff.Identify professional development opportunities specific to English Language Arts, Social Studies, and other Humanities disciplines.Collaborate with building principals and directors to strengthen instructional strategies and curriculum alignment in the Humanities.Encourage appropriate attendance at Humanities-related conferences, seminars, and inter-visitations.Recruit and interview qualified staff and faculty in Humanities content areas.Maintain a strong working relationship with State Education Department officials to stay current with policy changes and mandates affecting Humanities instruction.Supervisory ResponsibilityEvaluate and identify the needs of the professional staff within areas of responsibility.Supervise, observe, and evaluate faculty, Teaching Assistants, Teacher Aides, and support staff as appropriate.Assist building principals in the recommendations for staff tenure in areas of responsibility.Support the implementation and effectiveness of interdisciplinary teams or curriculum committees related to the Humanities.Direct supervision of reading teachers and literacy coaches.General AdministrationCoordinate and oversee curriculum development and program evaluations in Humanities subjects.Develop and coordinate district-wide site visits and inter-departmental collaboration to enhance Humanities programs.Ensure Humanities curriculum alignment with state standards and district goals.Monitor and assess student performance and instructional effectiveness in Humanities courses.Review and assess staffing needs and course offerings for each school year.Support initiatives to increase student engagement and achievement in Humanities subjects.Business and BudgetIn collaboration with the business office, develop and monitor the annual Humanities department budget.Review and approve purchase requisitions aligned with Humanities instructional goals and resources.Oversee expenditures related to Humanities instructional materials, technology, and professional development.Identify and help secure grants and alternative funding sources to enhance Humanities education programs.School and Community RelationsDevelop and maintain partnerships with local and state cultural, educational, and historical organizations to enrich the Humanities curriculum.Serve as a liaison with public libraries, museums, universities, and arts organizations to support Humanities education.Participate in and support building-based, FACE, and PTA initiatives related to Humanities.Foster positive school-community relations through events, exhibits, performances, and public showcases of student work in the Humanities.Support student outreach and civic engagement projects aligned with Humanities content areas.Develop new and maintain existing liaison with local and state agencies pertaining to programs and services for preschool and school-age students. Requirements:Valid New York State District Leader Certification and/or New York State School District Administrator Certification at the time of closing of advertisement required.Valid New York State Certification in one or more of the following areas required:New York State Childhood Education 1-6New York State English Language Arts 7-12New York State Social Studies 7-12New York State Reading/Literacy B-6, 5-12, or B-12Post-master’s degree in education (Doctorate preferred).At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience with tenure conferred in a humanities related area.At least five (2) years of successful experience in humanities related administration and staff supervision.Bilingual/Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
