Assistant Coordinator of School Counseling and Guidance - 10.5 Month PositionReports To: Coordinator of School Counseling and Guidance Certification Required:NYSED School Counselor CertificationNYSED School District Administrator (SDA) or School Business Leader Certification (SDL)Qualifications:NYSED Certification in School CounselingMinimum of 5 years of successful school counseling experience preferredDemonstrated organizational and leadership skillsKnowledge of NYSED counseling regulations, graduation requirements, and College Board testing protocolsStrong interpersonal, communication, and technology skills Position Overview:The Assistant Coordinator of School Counseling and Guidance Services supports the Coordinator in strengthening the District’s K–12 Comprehensive School Counseling Program. Working under the guidance of the Coordinator, this position helps align school counseling services with NYSED mandates, district goals, and the district’s Graduation Plus+ initiative—ensuring students graduate prepared for college, careers, and beyond. The Assistant Coordinator collaborates closely with school counselors, administrators, and district leaders to promote academic achievement, college and career readiness, social-emotional development, and postsecondary success for all students. Responsibilities: Support for Leadership & Supervision:Assist the Coordinator in supervising and supporting school counselors (grades K–12).Support the professional development, mentoring, and evaluation processes for counselors, under the direction of the Coordinator.Collaborate with building administrators to help align counseling practices with school and district priorities.Participate in department meetings, district committees, and professional learning communities to advance Graduation Plus+ goals. Academic Planning, Graduation Pathways, and Dropout Prevention:Assist in monitoring student progress toward graduation requirements, including Regents, Advanced Regents, CDOS, and pathways promoted through Graduation Plus+.Support school counselors with academic planning, course selection, and scheduling processes to promote college, career, and workforce readiness.Maintain awareness of NYSED diploma requirements and assist counselors in communicating these pathways clearly to students and families.Collaborate with counseling teams to monitor cohort data, identify students who may be at risk of falling behind, and assist in implementing dropout prevention strategies.Support the development of reengagement plans for students who are off track for graduation, helping to ensure all students have a clear pathway toward completion. College, Career, and Workforce Readiness:Support the implementation of college and career readiness programs, including college fairs, financial aid nights, and workforce development events.Assist in promoting equitable access to Graduation Plus+ opportunities, including Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, CTE programs, industry certifications, and internships.Help disseminate information about scholarships, internships, employment opportunities, and postsecondary programs to students and families. Testing & Assessments:Assist in coordinating PSAT, SAT, and AP exam administrations in partnership with school counselors and building test coordinators.Support communications related to College Board protocols, testing accommodations, and exam data reporting. Counseling Curriculum & Program Development:Assist in the review and development of the school counseling curriculum to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of all students.Help integrate career exploration and workforce readiness activities into the K–12 counseling program in alignment with Graduation Plus+ goals. Student Support Services:Assist with supporting Home Instruction services for secondary students, ensuring compliance with district policy and NYSED guidelines.Help facilitate reentry plans for students transitioning back from Home Instruction or extended absences.Collaborate with counseling and mental health teams to enhance social-emotional learning (SEL) supports and crisis intervention plans. Communication, Community Engagement, and Professional Development:Support timely communication with school counselors, administrators, students, and families regarding counseling programs and postsecondary opportunities.Assist in organizing district events such as college fairs, career exploration days, and transition programs.Help identify and promote professional development opportunities for counselors to build capacity in areas aligned with Graduation Plus+.Collaborate with community organizations, higher education institutions, and workforce partners to expand pathways for student success.
