POSITION: Cook Manager LOCATION: Watervliet City School District START DATE: August 1, 2026 SALARY: $60,000 - $65,000 Job Description: The Cook Manager is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food for the District and the supervision of the food preparation staff in three kitchens. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent and Director of Operations and is a twelve-month position. Supervision is exercised over the cooks, assistant cooks and food service helpers. This position oversees and participates in the preparation of and serving of food, supervises the storage and care of food and supplies, supervises and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen and care of the equipment, keeps records of food and supplies received and used, keeps employee time records, plans work schedules, evaluates food service employees, plans monthly menus with attention to nutritional value, acceptability and budgetary limitations, determines requirements and submits requisitions for food and supplies. The Cook Manager understands the principles and practices of large quantity food preparation, knowledge of state and federal guidelines for school lunch programs, knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrition principals and their applications to the health of clients, and knowledge of modern food preparation including the utensils, appliances and equipment used for such preparation. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in the preparation of food on a large scale; OR, Possession of an Associate’s Degree or the completion of six (60) college credits in food management, food preparation, food science, or food service administration or related field; 2. Civil service position; must be resident of Albany County. Preference to residents of Watervliet; 3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of large quantity food preparation; 4. Knowledge of menu planning; 5. Knowledge of purchasing food in large quantities and sanitary handling and storage of food; 6. Knowledge of fundamentals of nutrition principals and their applications to the health of students; 7. Knowledge of modern food preparation including the utensils, appliances and equipment used for food preparation; 8. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position with ability to lift 40 pounds; 9. Strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills; 10. Ability to work with students/staff in varied social/cultural backgrounds; 11. Ability to demonstrate job expectations; and 12.
