POSITION: Alternative Education Teacher (1 year leave); Certified in ELA 7-12LOCATION: Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School –EVOLVE program, located at Green Island SchoolSTART DATES: September 2, 2025 SALARY: $54,198 - $68,465 (per WTA contract)Job Description:The Evolve Program is designed to help students cultivate grit, resilience, and the skills necessary to become successful learners and responsible individuals. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Alternative Education Teacher who is committed to student growth and academic success through innovative, student-centered teaching.This position requires a highly empathetic educator who thrives in a dynamic environment and can tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of each student. The successful candidate will design and implement project-based, culturally responsive lessons aligned with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards, and foster a classroom environment that values student voice, identity, and achievement.Responsibilities:1. Design and deliver engaging, meaningful, and rigorous project-based learning experiences aligned to NYS Next Generation Standards.2. Plan and implement culturally responsive lessons that affirm students’ backgrounds, identities, & strengths.3. Demonstrate flexibility with curriculum and instruction to support students with a variety of academic and social-emotional needs.4. Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners and promote equity in access and outcomes.5. Develop and utilize rubrics and authentic assessments to measure student growth and progress.6. Provide consistent, constructive feedback to students and families to support academic development.7. Collaborate regularly with school leaders, fellow teachers, service providers, and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student success.8. Build strong, respectful relationships with students grounded in empathy, trust, and high expectations.9. Create a learning environment that is structured, responsive, and supportive, encouraging student independence and accountability.10. Participate in professional development and engage in ongoing reflection to continuously improve instructional practices.Qualifications:1. NYS Certification in a relevant subject area required (ELA 7-12).2. Experience working in alternative education or with at-risk youth strongly preferred.3. Deep understanding of project-based learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, and trauma-informed teaching.4. Ability to design differentiated instruction and meet the needs of all learners.5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, productive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.6. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered learning.7.
