The Watertown City School District is accepting applications for a tenure-track Instructional Coach for Grades 9-12 for the 2026-2027 school year. The position of the Instructional Coach is established to provide leadership and support to teachers in developing quality curriculum, instruction, and professional development. Instructional coaches serve under the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and are responsible for promoting the instructional programs at the building and district levels. Instructional coaches are selected through an application process involving an electronic application process and a multi-stakeholder interview process. Instructional Coaches will be appointed by the WCSD Board of Education each year and will serve as Teachers on Special Assignment, subject to yearly evaluations and re-appointment by the WCSD Board of Education. Qualifications Candidate must have teacher certification at the high school level. Candidate must have tenure and be able to provide content-based support as well as general instructional support to teachers of all areas. Candidate must be in good standing according to APPR 3012(d) of NYSED - Effective or Highly Effective for the past three (3) years. Experience with evidence-based instructional strategies and providing professional development. Characteristics The successful candidate will: build trusting and collaborative relationships with staff members; build consensus among grade levels and groups of teachers, while working collaboratively with diverse groups; demonstrate content expertise in subject area(s); support content and pedagogy at all levels of subject areas and help to create vertical alignment between and within buildings; use research to identify best practices and help market their effectiveness to staff; demonstrate a commitment to the WCSD Strategic Plan and its components; communicate effectively with all stakeholders; provide professional development and individual coaching support as requested; have knowledge, experience, and/or excitement about technology and technology integration; and build capacity in staff to develop curricula, instructional materials, and assessments (as applicable). Performance Responsibilities Help to ensure alignment of curriculum/instruction/assessments to standards and among grade levels. Serve as a resource for evidence-based practices and provide training and support. Assist grade-level teams and teacher assistants in setting goals for improved instruction and RtI implementation. Support teachers and teaching assistants in preparing lesson plans for RtI providers for the purposes of differentiating instruction. Provide professional development on content and pedagogy. Attend professional meetings as requested, both during and after school. Meet with Assistant Superintendent for Instruction regularly to discuss program successes, progress, and areas of need. Meet with Building Principal weekly. Meet regularly with the Building Principal, and teachers for the purpose of analyzing data and discussing best practices. Informally visit classes to identify student areas of success and need (non-evaluative), as requested by individual teachers or Building Principals. Other responsibilities as assigned from Building Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. Benefits: Lead teacher stipend, as determined by the WEA contract.
