STATEMENT OF THE POSITION The Assistant Director for Technology performs administrative and technical support functions related to the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the district’s technology systems. Working under the direct supervision of the Director of Technology, this position assists with the planning, implementation, integration, and maintenance of district-wide technology systems, cybersecurity protocols, and instructional technologies. This position does not serve as the final decision-maker on district technology policy, but provides recommendations, technical expertise, and operational support to the Director The role supports instructional technology initiatives to enhance student learning and operational efficiency, aligned with district priorities. This role requires a strong foundation in teaching and instruction, ensuring that all technology initiatives directly support student learning and instructional practices. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Technology & Strategic Alignment Support the integration of instructional technology aligned with curriculum goals Collaborate with instructional leadership and administrators Provide staff training on classroom technology use Promote practices that enhance engagement and digital literacy Ensure alignment with district initiatives Technology Operations & Systems Assist in development and maintenance of technology systems Support installation, configuration, and troubleshooting Monitor system performance and resolve issues Assist with inventory and lifecycle management Support operational functions including: Help desk systems Device deployment Building-level coordination Cybersecurity & Data Systems Assist in implementing cybersecurity protocols Support user access and permissions management Provide staff training on cybersecurity awareness Assist with student information systems Leadership Support Responsibilities Participate in meetings, planning, and district initiatives Assist in preparation of reports and presentations Support vendor coordination and project implementation Communication, Collaboration & Representation Communicate updates to staff as directed Serve as liaison with internal departments and vendors Participate in committees and meetings Budget & Resource Management Assist in monitoring budgets and expenditures Support purchasing processes Assist with grant research QUALIFICATIONS, BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a closely related field and two (2) years experience in information technology systems, including network administration, instructional technology, or cybersecurity support OR Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associates’ Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a closely related field and three (3) years experience in information technology systems, including network administration, instructional technology, or cybersecurity support. Experience in instructional technology or educational environment preferred Demonstrated knowledge and experience in teaching and instruction of instructional practices KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong understanding of: Network systems (switches, VLANs, wireless infrastructure) Active Directory, group policies, and user management Cybersecurity principles and best practices Knowledge of classroom technology integration and instructional design. Familiarity with student information systems Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a school district culture. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Twelve (12) months, Watertown City School District Management/Management Confidential Employees-affiliated position.
