The Watertown City School District is accepting applications for a Home School Coordinator.DISTINGUISHING FEATURE OF THE CLASS:This is a professional position working with other instructional and administrative staff in a school environment working with at-risk students, families and support systems. This position supports families, teachers, administrators, support personnel and community partners in their efforts to assist students in achieving educational excellence and to bridge the gap between home, school and community. Establishes positive lines of communication and encourages active participation, by the parents and community members, in the academic and social lives of students. The incumbent also acts as a liaison with local agencies in social services, law enforcement, probation and other community service agencies. Reports directly to the building administrator. Does related work as required.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICSThorough knowledge of the NYS Educational Laws regarding compulsory school age education;Working knowledge of support systems in place for at-risk students;Good knowledge of CSE procedures and related NYS and Federal regulations and statutes;Sensitivity to the unique needs of at-risk students, their families and support systems;Ability to interact positively with students, staff and community;Ability to assess threatening situations, make appropriate decisions and act quickly;Good communication and organizational skills;Ability to handle details accurately;Ability to work with others and without close supervision;Physical conditions commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS college or university with a masters degree in Social Work, School Counseling, Psychology or related field.Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree and two years’ experience as a counselor or caseworker. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent must possess valid NYS drivers’ license or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation demands of the position.
