ABOUT THE POSITION: The Director of Guidance is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and implementing of all phases of the counseling program on a district-wide basis. The K-12 Guidance Director plays a pivotal role in promoting the academic achievement, personal development, and overall well-being of our students. The Director of Guidance leads a team of guidance counselors and collaborates with teachers, administrators, social workers, clerical staff, and parents to implement comprehensive guidance programs that address the diverse needs of our student body. This position requires a visionary leader who is passionate about supporting students through their educational journey and preparing them for success beyond graduation. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Valid NYS Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL) and/or School District Leader as well as a Masters in School Counseling. School Guidance Counselor and/or leadership experience. Prior administrative experience preferred. Innovative, energetic, collaborative, and thoughtful approach to leadership with the ability to motivate and inspire others. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and community members. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in school counseling and guidance. Familiarity with student information systems and data analysis tools. Candidates must submit the following on OLAS: Cover letter, current resume, and three professional references Copy of NYS certification KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Personnel and Staff Development Provide staff development as needed to improve counseling services and to increase awareness of research, including disseminating information about current trends and research in the ?eld of school counseling and incorporating those best practices intoprogram development. Advise school counselors of pertinent workshops and conferences for their professional growth. Encourage communication with colleges, universities, and scholarship resources. Conduct needs assessments and data analysis to identify areas for improvement and inform program development. Develop and implement a comprehensive K-12 guidance program aligned with state standards and best practices in the ?eld. Business and Budget Develop and monitor the counseling department budget and approved expenditures while maintaining detailed records. Supervise the distribution of counseling grant funds. P rofessional Development Attend workshops and conferences for updates on the counseling curriculum, graduation requirements, etc. Work as part of the High School administrative team in the development of cohort studies. Supervisory Responsibility Supervise all school counselors, social workers, and guidance clerical staff, as well as, day to day operations of the department. Conduct observations and evaluations on all non-tenured staff, as well as, observations, evaluations, and end-of-year evaluations onall school counselors and social workers. Assist in the interview, selection, and assignment of all school counselors, social workers, and clerical staff. Supervise all phases of the college selection/admission/application process. Act as a resource to counselors, students, and parents on matters related to programs, counseling, etc. Develop and implement long-range and short-term planning and measurable goals for the District-wide guidance program. Develop and maintain a guidance plan in compliance with the New York State Standards. Coordinate college and career readiness initiatives, including college fairs, and career exploration activities, as well as standardized, New York State Testing, and SAT/ACT/AP preparation and communication with College Board. Proficiency in planning and developing the high school schedule; to include; analyzing class sizes and section needs, and working with the administration on appropriate teaching assignments. Develop, select, and evaluate homebound teachers for K-12 students. Oversee homeschooled students and coordinate regular checks on progress reports submitted. Supervise and support our homeless student population. Supervise and support students with 504 Plans. Coordinate the College Admissions Program including: the secondary school record report folder (profile) for colleges. statistical reports as needed regarding college admissions data. the College Procedure Handbook for 11 th and 12 th grade students and parents which is updated each school year. Holding regular evening events for parents on the college admissions process. School and Community Relations Plan and/or monitor all school counseling-related activities. Organize and attend parent nights. Organize the dissemination of scholarship information. Coordinate counseling department information flow to parents. including parent mailings and newsletters. Be available to meet with parents as needed or requested. Establish and maintain relationships with local community groups and individuals to develop, foster, and solicit understanding and support for overall guidance services and programs including Social and Emotional Learning and Wellness Programs. Assist in the development of district policies, regulations, and procedures as they relate to his/her areas of responsibility. General Administration Direct the student program planning process including the alternative education program selection and admissions. Supervise student record keeping. Advise Administration of the special academic needs of pupils. Develop, implement, and direct all phases of the counseling program. Review and update district course catalogs. Coordinate with building principals to ensure the efficacy of the District Guidance Plan is in place at all levels. Participate on district committees in his/her areas of expertise. Attend Board of Education meetings and present reports, upon the request of the Superintendent of Schools. Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. The Board of Education will offer a four year probationary appointment with a regionally competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, as well as an attractive benefits package per the WSA collective bargaining agreement.
