This position combines the instructional technology leadership needs of component school districts with the role of overseeing local area network systems, equipment and the BOCES staff that supports these systems. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between the various BOCES Instructional and Network Services provided to the school districts. In addition, this position will be involved in top-level technology planning activities in several component school districts, including planning of professional development opportunities to support the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction. A key component to this role will be providing supervision for Network Analysts and Microcomputer Specialists in component districts and assuring the highest levels of customer service and support in both instructional technology and network/desktop support. The work is performed under the general supervision of school district administrative personnel.Responsibilities:Ensures a high-quality implementation of a wide range of instructional and technical initiative guided by the NYSED approved long range technology plan for each districtMonitors and maintains local area network performance, resources, security and data integrity to include the upgrade and installation of software as required;Manages the file systems and shared local area network storage areas; i.e. routine e-mail database maintenance;Documents/monitors licensing information and application information;Plans, implements and supports network solutions between multiple platforms;Oversees the routine maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment, upgrades computer hardware and/or software as needed and coordinates off-site repairs of computers and peripheral equipment;Tests LAN software, hardware and connectivity options, researches LAN industry trends, and recommends appropriate changes in hardware and software standards;Diagnoses and resolves Local Area Network and Wide Area Network, operating system and hardware and software problems;Implements a high-quality help desk experience for all district end-usersMounts disks and tapes, backs up programs and data according to established schedules, prints reports, assigns passwords, and manages security;Attends and participates in professional conferences and meetings and serves as a technology liaison with the parents, teachers, school districts officials, BOCES and other program-related personnel;Serves on school district wide technology committee providing both instructional and technical advice and facilitating long range technology planning; plans effective professional development in the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction.Direct supervision, including assigning work activities and conducting performance evaluations, of subordinate staff;Trains and instructs school district personnel regarding the proper use of all computer software such as that used for e-mail, internet browsing, word processing and basic file management;Provides on-site training to instructional staff and other users in the operation of distance learning classroom equipment and other computer peripherals and audio-visual equipment;Sets up user local area network accounts and access rights; sets up user workstations for local area network, e-mail, internet and word-processing access.Qualifications:Master's Degree, Valid NYS teaching and administrative certification (SBL, SDA, SDL or SAS).Five years successful teaching experience and significant experience long range technology planning; designing, installing, updating and maintaining a local Area Network and/or a Wide Area Network.Administrative experience preferred.Location: Ballard Road Conference Center, Wilton
