Western Suffolk BOCES anticipates an opening for a Maintenance Mechanic III position in the area of HVAC. Must use independent judgment in the determination of materials and work methods used. Provides labor in support of department goals to provide safe, clean and functional spaces for our occupants. Performs regular general and specialized mechanical repairs of building systems. Primary assignments will include:HVAC maintains and repairs mechanical equipment, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers including the repair replacement of motors, fans, belts, couplings, filters and other component parts; adjusts for motor alignment, air flow and temperature/pressure controls.Performs basic maintenance and simple repairs on boilers and tempered water systems, coil repair brazing, diagnostics on circuit boards and all line, low and pneumatic controls components. Experience with BMS systems, line voltage and low-voltage controls. Proficient in operating and troubleshooting gas-fired package units, unit ventilators and split systems. Ductless split system experience a plus. Electrical diagnostics and repairs of line and low voltage systems such as changing light fixtures, ballasts, motors, starters, contactors, and electric circuits/devices. Pulls line and low voltage cable. Proficient at line voltage and low voltage circuits. Able to interpret circuit diagrams and use multimeter to diagnose faulty components. Pneumatic system diagnostics maintenance and repairs of pneumatic controls systems and components such as thermostats, actuators, controllers, compressors and filter driers.Proficient using hand tools, power tools and some heavy equipment. Able to work at heights, on lifts, ladders, scaffolds, on roofs or in crawl-spaces or tight spaces to accomplish repairs/ replacements and able to safely to lift and carry heavy equipment/ supplies as assignments requireOther duties as assigned Secondary assignments may include:Plumbing repairs and restoration including sinks, toilets, traps, ejector pumps, drains.Unclogs sinks, toilets, sewer lines and similar apparatus.Proficient with systems in copper & PVC using pro-press and hot work methodsCarpentry work and repairs such as door and hardware, windows, walls, ceilings, roofing, floor coverings such as carpet, ceramic tile, and resilient tile. Assembles furniture and other equipment. Uses cement and grout for necessary repairs., hang shelves and install classroom technology components. Locksmithing to include pinning cylinders, follow bid lists, cutting keys.Preps and paints building interiors and exteriors. Uses hand tools and air/airless sprayers to professionally prep and paint/ stain/ poly surfaces efficiently.Professional Responsibilities Maintenance Mechanic III 1. Organizes and utilizes resources efficiently. f. Demonstrates a high proficiency in completing assignments. Participates in agency training programs and staff development MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEither:Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas, and two (2) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned; or, Four (4) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned; or,An equivalent combination of the above education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b); or,One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic II. Necessary special requirement: Must have and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license.
