Western Suffolk BOCES anticipates an opening for a full time Head Groundsman position. Western Suffolk County locations.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES MAY INCLUDE:Prepare work assignments of ground crew based on a maintenance schedule developed by supervisors. Performs inspections, provides reports and maintains logs.Monitors, keeps logs and assists in training employees on the proper operation & maintenance of vehicles, machinery & equipment assigned to grounds crewRoutine landscaping maintenance activities of grounds crew: trash removal, mowing, blowing, weed whacking, edging including transporting machinery, materials and equipment to various school properties;Periodic landscape maintenance activities such as: weeding, seeding, aerating, planting, pruning/trimming of trees and shrubs and fence lines, fall/spring cleanups, catch-basin maintenance, mulching, top-dressing, fertilizing, power-washing, recreation field maintenance, parking lot line striping and removal of ice & snow and sand/salting pedestrian paths and parking lots and grounds of school property;Monitors attendance and performance of subordinate personnel. Trains employees on safe and proper methods for performing grounds maintenance activities.Performs inspections of landscape materials, hardscapes, recreations fields and playgrounds on a schedule developed by supervisors and makes recommendationsRequisitions materials, supplies & equipment for grounds projects; monitors inventories and conditions with logsMaking minor repairs to blacktop, concrete, fencing, signage, playground and recreation fields and grounds equipmentCoordinates with outside contractors performing grounds related work.Other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:Two years of experience in grounds maintenance activitiesMust have a valid NYS Drivers LicenseTo apply, upload a resume and cover letter.
