Western Suffolk BOCES anticipates an opening for a highly motivated and dedicated LCSW to join its multidisciplinary school-based team as an Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Counselor/Recovery High School Coordinator. The Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Counselor/Coordinator is supervised and directly responsible to the building program administrator. The relationship of Coordinator to all other staff members is advisory and consultative except as designated by the building administrator.Candidates MUST have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position will require someone who has experience with motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, skills of anger management, relapse prevention and family systems.Experience: Minimum 3 years prior experience working with adolescents and addiction treatment.Position: This is a 12-month, full time position which includes on call responsibilities with communication to the partner agency and Western Suffolk BOCES Administrators.Hours: 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Monday through FridayDuties and responsibilities:1. Participate in intake/screening• Review student records and engage in collaborative problem-solving with the Recovery High School interdisciplinary screening team• Facilitate tours and communicate with student’s home district• Assist in gathering additional documents and resources pertaining to student screening and intake as directed by the building administrator2. Candidates will support students who are in the Recovery High School Program• Ensure students are engaging in and provided their individual and group counseling services• Provide consultation and feedback to the educational team regarding SUD, Sobriety, Mindfulness, Trauma-Informed Care, crisis prevention and de-escalation, etc.• Participate in student daily assessments (Check-in/Check-out, Morning Transitions, Student participation throughout the day, bus arrival/dismissal and classroom check-ins, etc.)• Support students with educationally based planning needs and assist with student voice/advocacy3. Develop and Monitor the implementation of the Individualized Treatment Recovery Plan (I-TREP)• Coordinate the development of the Recovery Education Plan with clinical partner• Engage in collegial discussions to include essential progress monitoring and data associated with the I-TREP• Plan for appropriate recovery supports, interventions and practices in collaboration with clinical partner4. Provide information to school districts relative to each student’s progress• Work with district Guidance Counselors regarding educational performance, course needs and progress• Coordinate transition planning for post-graduation plans for students5. Maintain linkages with other treatment facilities and consistent contact with parents• Facilitate communication between outside treating providers and school staff relative to medical conditions, current treatment plans, etc.• Sustain communication and contact with families to foster home/school connectedness and understandings• Maintains clear records associated with communication• Educate school-based team with ever emerging/developing community resources and treatment supports to help with school/student/family needs6. Maintenance and development of student records in compliance with agency and SED regulations• Ensure the fidelity of the record keeping and documentation7. Oversee Student Transportation• Assess the per pupil transportation needs for the school year• Convey transportation needs to the appropriate district and obtain route and bus number information for each pupil• Assign transportation staff to their supervisory assignments and provide training.• Supervise arrival and dismissal procedures daily, troubleshoot and adjust procedures in the event of an unexpected incident (i.e., weather event, medical emergency, student behavioral episode, etc.)• Coordinate and facilitate bus meetings for the purpose of supporting bus personnel with student acting out behavior8. Provide Student Supervision• Supervise students in the lunch room daily• Supervise students in alternate learning environments Ensure the fidelity of the record keeping and documentation• Provide supervision for students waiting for late buses or parental pick-up• Supervise Lock Out Drills, Lock Down Drills and Fire Drills• Offer support and consultation to staff working with students throughout the school day• Provide crisis response intervention as appropriate in collaboration with building administrator9. Provide and Support Staff Training• Provide staff development, in-service training and coaching opportunities to staff related to adolescents with Substance Use Disorders and best practices for supporting students with Substance Use Disorders to sustain sobriety• Providing On-Boarding Training to new paraprofessional staff members (both in person presentations and organizing a mentoring experience across a sampling of classes)10. School Nutrition Program• Oversee and ensure necessary documentation• Conduct the random audit of eligibility and providing the audit notification/outcome to the families• Determine the initial eligibility status for each applicant11. Chair Meetings/Committees• Coordinate and organize parent meetings• Coordinate and organize school team interdisciplinary meetings• Chair re-entry meetings with families, districts and students upon arrival to school after a separation from program for any reason (alternate treatment that may be warranted, etc.)• Chair parent meetings when concerns/questions arise regarding student educational or psycho-social functioning or progress12. Provide and lead Crisis Intervention/Behavioral Support• Provide Crisis Intervention services to students throughout the program (i.e., de-escalating, maintaining safety and determine appropriate next steps)• Monitor program wide data collection (both classroom data as well as alternate classroom data)Job opening offers a competitive salary and benefits package.Bilingual – Spanish speaking – is a PLUS.To apply please upload your resume and job specific cover letter
