GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Oversees the housekeeping and custodial maintenance in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of White Plains school buildings and grounds; does related work as required.MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and either:A. Seven (7) years of custodial or housekeeping experience of a large complex with multiple buildings or facilities, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity of which two (2) must have been in a large facility; orB. Satisfactory completion of 30 credits towards an Associate or Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for two years of experience required in A) exclusive of the four years’ experience required at the supervisory level.Required knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes: Thorough knowledge of modern practices and procedures in school custodial operations; thorough knowledge of the supplies and equipment used in school custodial operations; ability to effectively plan, organize, schedule, and supervise the work of others; ability to maintain records and files; good judgment; tact; initiative; resourcefulness; dependability; ability to perform in a reasonable matter the essential function of the position.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)Plans and organizes the work of a large staff of custodial workers and supervisors, oversees work assignments, implements new or revised procedures, ascertains operational problems, and determines appropriate resolution to insure a safe and clean environment in all school buildings and grounds; Makes regular rounds of inspection throughout all buildings and grounds to insure conformance with established standards and procedures for proper maintenance, upkeep, and cleanliness; Selects and requisitions equipment and supplies needed to carry out operational objectives effectively;Interviews, selects, and trains custodial staff in proper procedures, use of equipment, cleaning compounds and operating building systems;Reviews unsatisfactory performance by custodial workers and takes appropriate disciplinary action;Prepares monthly and annual reports of division activities for the Director, as well as other reports as may be requested;Investigates and acts upon complaints by school staff, students, or community and prepares reports for administrative review;
