The White Plains City School District is seeking to hire a high school library media specialist for the 2023-24 school year. The candidate must possess NYS certification as a Library Media Specialist and demonstrate an understanding of informational literacy.Job description and expectations include:provide for diverse student needs in resources and instructioncollaborate with teachers to plan and implement instructional units that integrate the use of the library with classroom curriculumsponsor special programs in the library such as author visits, book fairs, book clubs, book reviewing, etc.educate students on the research process and help them develop research skillsparticipate in department, school and district meetings and professional development activities as appropriatefamiliarity with national and state standards for informational literacy and technologyprovide professional development to teachers to demonstrate how technology and information skills can support curriculum and instructionconducts ongoing collection analysis and development, regularly discarding and adding materials in light of the assessed needssubscribe to online databases and other electronic resourcescontinually rotate, replace, and update displays of books and student work to reflect current curricular themescollaborate with ELA and Social Studies department to select student summer reading materialsteach collaboratively with classroom teachers and other educators as appropriateaccess support services from the SWBOCES library system on professional development workshops, educational resources, pricing for databases, eBooks and library automationcreate a welcoming and respectful climate in the librarycommunicate to students and faculty the ethical and safe use of technologyhandle revenues and expenditures for the library budgetSalary placement as per the White Plains Teachers Association salary schedule with full benefits.
