Hours: Monday-Friday: 2 pm to 10 pm; weekend & on-call emergency availability; hours may vary; overtime is a normal occurrence during certain periods of the year.Job Description: This position involves the performance of all mechanical and operation tasks in the maintenance, repair and operation of a natural/diesel gas generation electric power plant at an apprentice level and is expected to perform the skilled and mechanical work necessary to maintain and ensure operation of the power plant. Employee is responsible for maintaining the plant in a clean and orderly condition as well as assisting in overhauling large natural/diesel gas generator units as well as power plant auxiliary equipment and ability to follow oral and written instructions. They are expected to perform routine mechanical tasks using hand and power tools. Employees should exhibit ability to think and act quickly in an emergency situation, working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for this operation, basic understanding of electrical switchgear and chiller operations, does related work as required, may assist other departments in their work when required, including plowing and snow removal.Experience: One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment such as gas engines, diesel engines or electric generating equipment.This position requires interested candidates to complete a Civil Service application and be approved by Civil Service before beginning the hiring process with the District.
