The West Islip Union Free School District is seeking highly qualified and compassionate professionals to join our student support services team as a Special Education Teaching Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for an individual dedicated to professional growth who is passionate about creating inclusive, supportive learning environments and collaborating closely with classroom teachers to ensure the success of all students. This individual will play an integral role in reinforcing instruction, implementing vital student accommodations, and fostering behavioral and academic success in line with our mission, “Every Student, Every Day!” Certification/Qualification: Teaching Certification or Teaching Assistant Certification Special Education Teaching Assistant Responsibilities: Support students through direct collaboration with the certified classroom teacher. Assist with the implementation of student accommodations, modifications, and behavioral support plans as outlined in IEPs/504 plans. Reinforce lessons initiated by the teacher by working with individual students or small groups to review concepts and complete tasks. Perform operational functions to support specially designed classroom instruction, including preparing materials and organizing learning environments as needed. Monitor student progress during independent or group work, helping to keep students engaged and on-task. Must be well-organized with strong verbal communication skills and a patient, supportive demeanor.
