Opening September 2026 Coordinator of Behavioral Support Services What if every student in West Hempstead had the right support before they ever needed a crisis plan? The West Hempstead Union Free School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Coordinator of Behavioral Support Services to lead our district-wide behavioral support program. In this role, you will bring specialized, in-house behavioral expertise to classrooms across all four buildings, replacing a contracted service model with a consistent, accessible, embedded presence for students, families, and staff. If you believe that behavioral support is not an add-on service but a core condition for learning, we want to hear from you. If you are interested, here is what year one is all about. For a Coordinator of Behavioral Support Services in West Hempstead, this is the kind of work that matters, building a coherent, proactive, and student-centered behavioral support system across every building and every grade. Conduct district-wide functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and develop evidence-based behavior intervention plans (BIPs) that are practical, individualized, and built for real classrooms. Provide clinical supervision and consultation to school-based special education teachers, school psychologists, social workers, teaching assistants, and 1:1 and shared aides across all four buildings. Design and oversee Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral interventions within our MTSS framework, ensuring students receive the right level of support at the right time. Lead formal investigations on behalf of the district, ranging from DASA complaints to behavioral incidents, ensuring compliance with district policy and state and federal regulations. Analyze district-wide behavior data to identify trends and lead professional development on de-escalation techniques, data collection, and positive reinforcement strategies. Who we are looking for. Realistically, we need someone with the proper certification. But beyond the paperwork, we want to work with a leader who sees behavioral support as inseparable from instruction, not a service that happens off to the side. The successful candidate believes in the power of proactive, relationship-based behavioral support, understands what high-quality intervention looks like in a real classroom, and leads with both clinical expertise and follow-through. We want someone who will take educated risks, consider both first- and second-order consequences, and build trust with teachers, related service providers, building administrators, students, and families. You don't have to have all the answers on day one, but you need to ask the right questions and commit to finding them. Day one is good, too. These include competitive compensation, a supportive administrative team, a district that is investing directly in building internal expertise rather than outsourcing it, and a community that cares deeply about its students. But none of that matters unless “Year One and Beyond” makes career sense for you. This position is for someone who wants to build something, not just manage a caseload. Desired Skills and Experience If you can accomplish the above, you have what it takes. Realistically, you need a NYS teaching certification in any area (special education, school psychology, speech-language pathology, or similar), along with a School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) certification. You also need active certification as a Nationally Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a NYS Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), hands-on experience conducting functional behavior assessments and writing behavior intervention plans in a school setting, and a working understanding of MTSS, PBIS, and special education law and due process requirements. You need to know what effective behavioral consultation looks like and be able to build the capacity of the staff around you. If you have this experience, you know why it matters. If you are not sure you check every box, but you believe deeply in this work and have someone who will vouch for your ability to do it, let's talk. NYS Certification is Required Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest, updated resume, and certification by July 22, 2026 online at www.olasjobs.org: Daniel Rehman, Superintendent West Hempstead UFSD 252 Chestnut Street West Hempstead, NY 11552 E.O.E.
