Probationary Position August 2026 Reading Teacher What are you striving for? Do you want students to read, write, think, listen, and speak critically every day? Are you ready to bring your expertise to a learning culture built on high expectations, inquiry, and kaizen? We are searching for a Reading Specialist who will apprentice our students into expertise through inquiry. As you and your students achieve mastery, we want our students to see themselves in their pursuit of mastery. We also want an educator who will allow our students to do all this creatively. Finally, we want to collaborate with a professional whose vision for learning matches ours. This opportunity is a win-win for you and our students. If you are interested, here is what year one is all about. This opportunity is not just a series of philosophical questions for a reading educator – it will be a reality. Becoming a member of the RamFam will allow you to create the conditions for students to be in a state of imbalance and then provide the feedback necessary to allow learning to be transformed. We also want an educator who has high levels of knowledge and understanding of the content they teach. can guide learning to surface and deep outcomes. can successfully monitor learning and provide feedback that assists students in progress. can attend to more attitudinal attributes of learning (i.e., self-efficacy, mastery motivation). can provide defensible evidence of the positive impacts of the teaching on student learning. Realistically, we need someone with the proper certifications. However, you need to understand the content being taught or utilize the vast array of professional development opportunities we offer to hone your craft. You will be expected to be able to provide feedback that advances student learning. The successful candidate will naturally attend to the social-emotional component of learning and discuss why teaching "moves" have or have not worked. While this is all about year one and beyond, day one is good, too. There are things like compensation, the district, the staff, and the location. However, none of this matters unless "Year One and Beyond" makes career sense for you. Desired Skills and Experience If you can accomplish the above, you have what it takes. Realistically, it would help if you had the proper certification and hands-on knowledge of state standards, literacy education, and small group instruction. If you have it, you know why. If you do not, ask someone who does, and if they think you can do the work or they will help you through it, let's talk. NYS Certification is Required Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest, updated resume, and certification by June 26, 2026 online at www.olasjobs.org: Dina Reilly, Assistant Superintendent West Hempstead UFSD 252 Chestnut Street West Hempstead, NY 11552 E.O.E.
