OpeningSeptember 2025 Probationary PositionGeneral Music & Chorus TeacherChestnut Street & Cornwell Avenue SchoolsCalling All Elementary Music Educators: Help Us Strike the Right Note!Picture this: young voices discovering harmony for the first time. Tiny hands learning to keep rhythm while drawing their first bow across violin strings. Students lighting up as they master their first song on recorder or achieve their first clean pizzicato. If nurturing these magical musical moments fills your heart, we want to hear from you! We're seeking a passionate elementary music educator who believes every student has a natural musicality waiting to be awakened. You'll guide our youngest learners through the foundational building blocks of music—from clapping simple rhythms to reading their first notes, from exploring different instruments to finding joy in orchestral ensemble playing. This isn't just about teaching music; it's about planting seeds of creativity, confidence, and lifelong appreciation for the arts.At our elementary level, you'll create an environment where students develop essential musical skills through play, exploration, and discovery. Whether they're marching to a steady beat, experimenting with classroom instruments, learning proper bow technique, or discovering the joy of playing in tune with their classmates, you'll be there to celebrate every breakthrough and guide them through every challenge. We want an educator who understands that elementary music education is where musical journeys begin—and who's excited to be the person who makes those first steps memorable, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for young learners, while also fostering a love for orchestral music that will carry them through their K-12 experience. If you are interested, here is what year one is all about. This opportunity is not just a job but a calling that allows you to flourish and become the best version of yourself. Becoming a member of the RamFam will allow you to create the conditions for students to be in a state of imbalance and then provide the feedback necessary to transform learning. We also want an educator who:Has high levels of knowledge and understanding of elementary general music content and developmentally appropriate pedagogy. Can guide learning to surface and deep musical outcomes, supporting foundational skills such as rhythm, melody, and musical expression. Can successfully monitor student progress in general music concepts and skills, providing timely, constructive feedback that supports ongoing musical growth. Can attend to attitudinal attributes of learning, including building self-efficacy, motivation, and a positive attitude toward music in young learners. Can provide defensible evidence of positive impacts on student learning in elementary general music, using examples such as student performances, projects, and formative assessments.Realistically, we need someone with the proper certifications. However, you need to understand the content being taught or utilize our vast professional development opportunities to hone your craft. You will be expected to be able to provide feedback that advances student learning. The successful candidate will naturally attend to the social-emotional component of learning and discuss why teaching "moves" have or have not worked. While this is all about year one and beyond, day one is good, too. There are things like compensation, the district, the staff, and the location. However, none of this matters unless "Year One and Beyond" makes career sense for you. Desired Skills and ExperienceIf you can accomplish the above, you have what it takes. Realistically, it would help if you had the proper certification and experience leading music education teaching to students in grades K-12. We want someone who helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through various planned music experiences, including singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening. You will also assist the staff of the school with various performances. If you have it, you know why. If you do not, ask someone who does, and if they think you can do the work or will help you through it, let's talk.
