Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Management Services, the School District Treasurer is regarded as a highly important technical position involving responsibility for the accounting of fiscal operations of the District. The work is performed in accordance with general and specific instructions outlined by the Board of Education, permitting considerable latitude for the exercise of technical accounting judgement in the classification of accounts and preparation of reports. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Identifies and researches budget inconsistenciesProcesses budget amendments and transfersManages all banking, banking structures and banking relationshipsDevelops and implements investment strategies permitted by law and approved by the BOEReviews and establishes debt service payments including RANS, TANS, BANS & BONDSRemits Federal and NYS employee withholding taxesRemits sales taxReviews 1099s and W-2s for accuracyPerforms accounting for all funds utilizing governmental accounting principlesMaintains general ledger, cash receipts and cash disbursements for all fundsRecords journal entries and tracks & records revenuePrepares School Lunch financial reports for OCS as well as the DistrictCompletes treasurer, expenditure and revenue reports for board meetingsMonitors the District’s cash flowManages District credit cardsAssists internal and external auditor with annual risk assessment reviewAssists in the preparation of the corrective action plan for all auditsMaintains records related to NYS and Federal grants (FS25s and FS10Fs)Prepares annual financial report (ST3) and assists Assistant Superintendent for Management Services with annual State Aid Claim documentsCreates invoices for out of District student tuitionAssists in the STAC processAssists in year-end closingRemits Medicare part D for reimbursementDistributes ADAPEP information to BOCES for Onondaga CountyReconciles school taxesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by Assistant Superintendent for Management ServicesQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred with 2 years’ experience performing governmental accounting and keeping/maintaining financial records or similar School District Business Office experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong software knowledge using worksheets (EXCEL) as well as knowledge of various treasury reporting including cash flow models and cash flow projections is preferred. Salary commensurate with experience.
