The West Genesee CSD is searching for an ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONDESCRIPTION: The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction is a district leadership position reporting directly to the Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction provides leadership and vision in ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review and evaluation of the district’s curriculum and instructional servicesensures that the district’s/schools’ education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellencecoordinates, schedules, and presents training to the teachers and specialists that is aligned with the district plans, goals, and objectives.PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES: 1. Flexibility, creativity, and a systematic approach in problem-solving and program development.POSITION DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Within the limits of authorized district policies, procedures, programs and budgets, the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for, and has commensurate authority to accomplish the duties set below and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.1. Assumes responsibility for the continuous program of curriculum development, review, and assessment to assure that each student obtains the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for becoming a cooperative, self-directed caring citizen.2. Develops and implements, with other members of the staff, an effective, articulated instructional program which provides smooth transitions for students from one level to the next.3. Assumes responsibility for the study, planning, and introduction of new programs, techniques, and materials for the purpose of improving the instructional program.4. Coordinates and supervises UPK-12 student assessment and the district testing program, to meet the requirements of the instructional program.5. Coordinates the writing, editing, and publishing of curriculum guides and courses of study for use by the instructional staff.6. Coordinates the Strategic Plan for Educational Improvement of the district, collecting and recording information about all related activities.7. Works with the staff of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services and with other districts on the development and implementation of shared instructional and curricular programs.8. Coordinates an effective staff development program for the district, in concert with the Teaching Center and BOCES.9. Supervises and evaluates instructional directors and coordinators and their activities for the improvement of instruction.10.Meets regularly with principals, directors, coordinators, central office administrators, teachers, and other staff members to review matters pertaining to the instructional program.11. Reviews qualifications and recommends candidates for appointment and/or tenure on the instructional staff.12. Observes all non-tenured teachers at least once a year in a scheduled classroom observation.13. Coordinates the assessment of instructional materials and equipment on a regularly scheduled basis.14. Collaborates with the Superintendent in development and review of a budget designed to meet the needs of the educational program.15. Provides reports for the Superintendent, the Board of Education, and the community on the instructional program.16.Assists in the development of district policies, regulations, and procedures pertinent to curriculum and instruction.17.Coordinates ESSA-funded programs (Titles I-IV) ensuring all schools receiving funds remain in compliance with state and federal requirements, including student achievement, parent and family engagement, community collaboration, budgeting and documentation.18. Coordinates a variety of pupil personnel services, such as Homebound Instruction and Home Schooling.19. Explores alternative ways of funding programs through state, federal and private grants.20. Serves as chairperson of the Parent Curriculum and Instruction Council, the Elementary and Secondary Curriculum Councils, and other appropriate committees.21. Serves as co-chairperson of the Educational Development Committee.22. Serves as the district office representative to the Teaching Center Directing Council.23. Coordinates educational services to all non-public schools within the district.24. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Salary dependent on experience.
