PERSONNEL BULLETIN FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR: Director of Athletics, Health, and Physical Education Overview of the Position Due to the retirement of the current director, the Westbury Union Free School District is seeking a Director of Athletics, Health, and Physical Education to facilitate the interscholastic athletics program, to coordinate the implementation of quality physical education and health education instruction from K-12, and to promote the vision of a scholar-athlete. This probationary administrative position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. While the candidates who receive an invitation for a first-round interview will be provided a comprehensive job description for the position, the qualifications, duties, and performance responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: · Coordinate the interscholastic athletic, health, and physical education programs in the Westbury UFSD from grades K-12. · Supervise, observe, evaluate, and provide high level professional development to all coaches, health teachers, and physical education teachers in the Westbury UFSD from grades K-12. · Recruit coaches with proven records of athletic participation at the highest levels and ensure that coaches receive continual training at conferences and clinics. · Create a culture of supporting the scholar-athlete in the classroom, during practice, at games, and promoting recognitions. · Foster a high level of expectations and accountability for all athletic coaches, health teachers, and physical education teachers. · Develop new interscholastic programs and activities for all levels of students. · Form partnerships with community-based organizations to promote youth athletic programs. · Collaborate with institutions of higher education to create opportunities for recruitment, scholarships, and participation in NCAA sports. · Ensure that all athletic coaches, health teachers, and physical education teachers are trained in current first aid, CPR, and AED procedures. · Collaborate with the Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor of Security and building administrators to plan for supervision at athletic events. · Plan and develop a departmental budget that promotes gender equity and team equity in interscholastic sports and the highest level of curriculum and instruction. · Collaborate with the facilities department and building administrators for the preparation of safe athletic fields and gymnasiums. · Work with the facilities department and building administrators on capital improvement projects related to athletics, health, and physical education. · Ensure that all equipment and uniforms are ordered and where applicable, those items are sent out for appropriate reconditioning services. · Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills. · Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and Central Administration. Requirements and qualifications for the position: · New York State Physical Education K-12 Certification and/or New York State Health Education K-12 Certification, required . · New York State School District Leader Certification (SDL) or New York State School District Administrator Supervisor certification (SDA), required . · At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Physical Education and/or Health Education with tenure conferred, required . · Successful experience in school administration and staff supervision, required . · Doctorate, preferred .
