PERSONNEL BULLETIN FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR: Principal of Westbury High School Overview of the Position Due to the retirement of the current Principal of Westbury High School, the Westbury Union Free School District is seeking a visionary new Principal of Westbury High School to serve as the instructional leader of the school, to facilitate the supervisory and evaluative process with staff, to coordinate high quality student programs, to engage families in proactive community relations, and to embrace the Westbury UFSD learning community through a culture of caring and sensitivity. This probationary administrative position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. While the candidates who receive an invitation for a first-round interview will be provided a comprehensive job description for the position, the qualifications, duties, and performance responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Comprehensive knowledge of New York State learning standards, including expertise in secondary curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Experience leading an International Baccalaureate Diploma Proramme and the IB Learner Profile, preferred. Knowledge of the NYS Portrait of a Graduate initiative. Proven leadership in areas of high school child development, staff development, staff supervision/evaluation, problem solving, collaborative/shared decision making, community engagement, strategic planning, and budgeting. Analyzes and utilizes all summative, formative, and common assessment data for the continuous improvement of teaching and learning and student outcomes. Experience with the implementation of Professional Learning Communities. Expertise in the use of research-based educational practices, with an understanding of research trends and innovative practices in education and leadership. Strong literacy and math background. Nurtures and maintains a positive, open-minded and healthy school-wide climate and organization for learning (which features high expectations, focuses on student achievement, collaboration, support, solution -oriented dispositions, for example etc.). Engenders a climate for effective collaboration to promote an inclusive environment that features equity and access for all stakeholders, with an emphasis on school families and community. Commitment to supporting district programs with fidelity, particularly insuring horizontal and vertical articulation of a variety of pathways. Experience in master scheduling and student data management systems. Incorporates innovative practices into the man agement and instructional processes. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Designs, develops, collaborates on, and coordinates student and family engagement programs and outreach. Demonstrated leadership and management abilities, along with excellent communication/public relations skills, ability to articulate a vision of best practice for instructional groups, understanding of systems management, experience with applied technology in an educational setting, and the demonstrated leadership ability to work with diverse groups. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. Requirements for the Position: New York State Teaching Certification in a subject related to secondary education, required. At least five (5) years of successful secondary teaching experience with tenure conferred, required. At least five (5) years of successful experience in secondary school administration and/or staff supervision, required. Doctorate, preferred. Valid New York State Building Leader Certification (SBL) and/or New York State School Administrator and Supervisor Certification (SAS) at the time of closing of advertisement, required.
